On Sunday 12th February we had a special service, joint with the Good Shepherd Mission, to which we invited Margaret and Peter Wiltshire. Margaret and Peter moved recently but this was the first opportunity that we all had officially to say, “Cheerio” and “Thank you for all you’ve done for us here at St. Marks’s”!
Margaret played the organ for the service and selected her favourite hymns for us to sing. These were “The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ our Lord”, “As we are gathered, Jesus is here”, “In heaven my love abiding, no change my heart shall fear” and “Lord for the years your love has kept and guided”.
After the service we walked over to the Parish Hall where all the food that various parishioner’s had brought had been beautifully laid out.
This gave Margaret and Peter a chance to catch up with old friends ….
….. and, of course, enjoy the food!
Hunger satisfied, Margaret and Peter were presented with a bouquet of flowers and a cheque. [The cheque was made up of donations from the congregations of St. Mark’s, and The Good Shepherd, which had been matched by the PCC.]
As she made the presentation, Eileen thanked the couple, and particularly Margaret, for all that they had done for St. Mark’s. She mentioned everything from learning how to and then playing the organ, through running the Lunch Club, to being our Deanery Synod representative and much else besides. She is already being much missed.
Following Eileen, Rod stepped forward to reiterate our thanks – peppered with amusing anecdotes about their various activities.
Margaret thanked everybody for their generosity and told how well they were settling in to their new home although they hadn’t actually sold their old house yet. They both seemed to have enjoyed the whole occasion.
So we say, “Cheerio” to Margaret and Peter. “Enjoy your new home but, don’t forget to visit us when you are in the area.”
Thank you to Walter for these photos in the hall.
