At 3.00 p.m., on Sunday 9th December our Lay Reader, Andy, led the Carol service at The Good Shepherd Mission.
As it was the second Sunday in Advent the service began with the lighting of the second Advent candle – the candle of peace.
The rest of the service was a little bit different this year as, instead of the traditional readings from the Bible, interspersed with carols, Andy read the different elements of the Christmas story from The Tabloid Bible! Such stories as the visit of an Angel to Mary; The Census called by the Roman emperor Augustus; The Shepherds on the Hillside; the arrival of the wisemen; etc. were given a different twist!
However, the Carols were traditional. There was, however, a slight technical hitch with the DVD player on the earlier tunes but by the end of the service everything was running smoothly!
The service may have been different but it was prayerful and it made you think – which, after all, is what it’s all about.
Fellowship, coffee and mince pies at the end of the service were excellent too and the building felt lovely – warm and beautifully decorated for the season.
