St. Mark’s end of Christmas term service, 2016

  • by

On Wednesday 21st December
2016, the last day of the Christmas term, the children and staff came over to
the church for their end of term service!

At the beginning of the service Eileen
asked Skyla and Miss Hatton to come out to the front of church.  Eileen then congratulated Skyla on her
birthday that day and Miss Hatton on her marriage last week!

We then all sang the song “The virgin
Mary had a baby boy.” before Mrs. Freeman gave out the attendance certificates
to all the children who had not missed any school time this term.

When we had applauded all the
certificate winners the children sang a selection of songs from their nativity
production – complete with actions!

Next came the presentation of the
“Effort” awards – stars given to one child in each year group who had been
judged to have made an extra special effort this term.

Eileen then pulled a cracker with Mrs.
Freeman before asking two children from each year group to come out and pull
crackers with each other.  From these she
read out all the jokes to which everyone could only respond “Ho-ho-ho!”

She then told us how, when we pull
crackers on Christmas day, they will remind us about Jesus.  She said that the paper crowns in the
crackers were to remind us that Jesus was born, “The king of kings”.  The gift inside was to remind us that Jesus
came as a gift from God.  The joke was to
remind us that the “King of kings” brought joy to the world and wanted us to
have fun.  Finally Eileen commented that
crackers may be pretty on the outside but (just like us) it’s what inside that

Then lastly, before the final prayers,
The St Mark’s Choir sang a lovely selection of Christmas songs.

What a great way to start the Christmas

                                  Have a
wonderful time everybody!
