Vicar’s Newsletter February 2017

Eileen at OYM

Dear Friends,

I really feel I must share this with you. In Matthew Chapter 10 it says “Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness.  These twelve Jesus sent out.”

We also read in Luke, Chapter 10, “After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go.” If you were to continue reading you would see how the disciples returned in joy, so excited at what they had seen and been able to do in the authority that had been given to them in Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

I tell you this because this weekend I really stepped outside my comfort zone. I had signed up for ‘Training for healing of people’. After our training, I together with about 20 people went onto the streets of Ormskirk town centre and engaged with people passing by, offering to pray for healing for them. It was a freezing cold afternoon and people were walking quickly past.

But guess what? We were able to pray for people, people actually came and sat down and we were able to tell them how loved they were by God, we called upon the Holy Spirit and then with the authority that is given as a gift to every believer we were able to command what ever ailed that person to come out and leave. We were able to pray for Gods peace to surround them and as we prayed, men with men, women with women, we knelt besides those who were so in need looked into their eyes and gave healing: healing that was instant, healing just beginning and healing yet to come but not yet seen. We found boldness and confidence from God and from each other and we really did leave the town rejoicing.

You see healing in the power of God is not a thing of the past, it is open to us here and now, for you and for me and all who have faith in the healing love of Jesus. We who are obedient to his commands have the authority of Jesus to be a light, a blessing and bring healing to the lost and wounded. It is our job to prepare the way for Jesus to come into the lives of those who don’t know him and he has given us the power to do this not in our own power but by Gods power.

Do you know this? Do you believe this of yourself? Do you maybe need to be reminded of this? If you do, well why don’t you accept this invitation to come and join the conversation? We are just going to look at where we are with God at this time in our lives. To learn again about how much God loves us, what Jesus did and continues to do for us and the power we have in the gift we have been given in the Holy Spirit.

We will meet for three weeks each Sunday in the Parish Hall, between 12.30-1.30pm after the 11.00am service, and we will have soup and sandwiches and talk together as the family of God. The dates are 5th, 19th and the 26th February. So why not step out of your comfort zone and join us and let God Bless you.

Love Eileen
